Commercial Solar Energy

At Shawton, we want to show you the best ways to harness solar power that will make a significant difference to your long term commercial energy costs. We want to be your long term partner to help achieve this.

We are a renewable technology provider and because of the way our company is structured, we can partner with a range of businesses across a variety of industries, to support them in meeting carbon reduction targets. We are specialists in large scale commercial solar panel systems for a wide range of businesses.

Solar power is one of the fastest growing sources of new energy worldwide and this is for very good reason. Solar power is generated from PV (photovoltaic) panels which are usually installed on buildings or appropriate nearby land. When the sun shines onto the panel, energy from the sunlight is absorbed in the PV cells in the panel.

This energy then creates the electrical charge, which moves in response to an internal electrical field. It is this process that causes the electricity to flow.

The PV solutions that we offer for businesses cover everything from the initial design through to the operation and management. The solar power solutions will save you money as well as helping to decarbonise your business.

Why Invest in Solar Panels for your Business?

As the world continues to work towards a more sustainable future, companies investing in solar energy will undoubtedly reap ecological and economic rewards – setting them apart in an increasingly competitive market.

No matter what your industry or sector, your business can significantly benefit from commercial solar panels. Whether you’re looking to cut costs, reduce your carbon footprint or future-proof your business energy supply, commercial solar panels can offer the perfect energy solution.

When using solar panels, you become less reliant on the national grid and less affected by their price increases. Also, due to the way that the panels are made, ongoing maintenance costs are minimal.

Storing electricity onsite, through battery energy storage systems, means that you have another supply to use when it is needed.

Using solar power also shows your commitment to making better choices for the environment and can form part of your CSR strategy.

Secure Commercial Solar Panels With Our Power Purchase Agreements

Commerical electricity rates are climbing, with increased volatility in energy markets further complicating the situation. This trend presents a substantial hurdle for companies trying to maintain efficient operational cost management.

At Shawton Energy, we are keenly aware of the importance of sustainable, economical energy alternatives for businesses. We’ve developed specialised solar Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) to directly tackle this issue.

Our analysis contrasts the financial impacts of persisting with traditional energy sources against the shift to our solar PPA.

What is a Power Purchase Agreement?

A power purchase agreement (PPA) is an electricity supply agreement for energy generated on site. It enables businesses to switch effortlessly to low cost, clean, green energy, without any capital expenditure.

The PPA term is typically up to 25 years.

The price of the power purchased is fixed and will increase annually at the Retail Price Index (RPI) rate, therefore providing a safe harbour for future spikes in power prices.

Monthly invoicing and performance reports.

System sizes under 1MW are permitted development (unless on a listed building or in a conservation area); therefore, planning permission is not usually required.

With Shawton, there are no initial maintenance, refurbishment or roof upgrade costs.

We insure the system at no cost to you.

The rights and title to the system will pass to you upon completion of the PPA term.

The system is monitored and maintained for the full duration of the agreement, at no cost to you.

Typically, how many years will my PPA contract be?

25 years; however, we do provide buy-out options for years 10, 15 & 20 upon request.

Will my PPA (kWh) unit price increase erratically?

Our PPA price is fixed and only increases in line with the Retail Price Index.

How frequent will we receive an invoice from yourselves?

We review your performance data monthly. All information will therefore be shared with yourselves via invoice monthly.

Will my project require planning permission?

Initially, there will not be any roof refurbishment or maintenance costs to you. Prior to the installation commencing, we will complete a site visit where we will conduct an assessment of the suitability of the roof. If repair works are required, we will offer a range of solutions best suited to your business to overcome the issues, such as incorporating the cost into our PPA price.

Is my roof appropriate to have a PV System installed?

Shawton Energy will insure the PV System on your behalf at no additional cost. There should also be no increase to your premium as the asset is third-party owned, but please feel free to discuss this with your insurers.

Will the PV System be insured? Will this affect my Insurance Premium at all?

The PV System will be insured by ourselves on your behalf at no additional cost. There should also be no increase to your premium as the asset is third party owned but please feel free to discuss this with your insurers.

Would we have to maintain and monitor the equipment ourselves?

Maintenance and monitoring are included within our PPA offer for the duration of the agreed agreement term.

What will happen after the PPA contract expires?

After the agreed term has expired the rights and title will be passed onto yourselves. Effectively, you can now enjoy the PV power produced at zero cost!

How long does the operation take?

Commonly, the process takes around 6-8 weeks from the PPA and Lease agreements being signed to the system being installed and commissioned. This will be longer if there is a delay in signing the PPA & Lease agreements.

To what extent will my business be interrupted during the installation process?

We will ensure the disruption to your business is as minimal as possible. All site visits and access requirements will be agreed with yourselves prior to commencement.

Is it a necessity for you to lease my roof/land?

Yes, this is the only legal route due to you owning the premises.

If I want to sell my business, what will happen to the equipment?

The Power Purchase Agreement & Lease agreements will be transferred to the new owner. We guarantee to make the transfer as easy and hassle free as possible for the new owner.
