Princes Groups

Princes Food Group’s sustainability strategy and Net Zero ambitions were the key reasons to work with Shawton Energy on the first of their renewable projects in the UK. With their Logistics provider, Knowles Logistics already on this journey to enhance their 2 million square feet of warehousing portfolio, it was a truly collaborative effort to deliver a project that will not only provide carbon and financial savings but also enhance the property’s value.

Installed 500 kWp of rooftop Solar PV panels at Princes Group's facility in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire

Utilised large roof space at the distribution centre to cut grid energy demand

Princes Group now generates 542,903 kWh of 100% renewable energy annually

The Process

01 Clear Solar Energy Goals

Shawton Energy installed 500kWp of rooftop Solar PV panels at their third-party logistics facility in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire where their nearby manufacturing site consumes large amounts of energy because of the production of baked beans, soups, pastas and sauces and took advantage of the large roofs at their distribution centre adjacent to the manufacturing facilities to lower their energy demand off of the grid. By going with a fully funded solution via a Power Purchase Agreement, Princes were able to start reaping the benefits of their Solar PV system immediately without any upfront Capital Investment and leave any ongoing maintenance of their system to Shawton Energy at no further cost.

02 Bespoke Turnkey Solution

Through detailed analysis of their energy usage, costs and site layout, Shawton Energy designed a bespoke, turnkey solution for both Princes and Knowles Logistics‘ needs. Working with both the site team and leadership team in Princes and the senior exec within Knowles Logistics, they ensured that all goals were met and both the commercial, technical and environmental benefits were delivered by Shawton Energy.

Could your business benefit from solar energy?

The Result

Princes Group are now enjoying 542,903kWh of 100% renewable energy every year at their Wisbech site, which accounts for over 30% of their energy usage. By having over 1,200 panels installed, they are looking forward to enjoying renewable energy for more than 11 years through Shawton Energy’s PPA with an expected energy bill saving of more than £1.2m during that period.
