At Shawton Energy, we believe in the power of a fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work. That’s why we are proud to announce that we have officially become a Living Wage Employer, reinforcing our commitment to supporting our workforce and their families.
Our accreditation as a Living Wage Employer means that every member of our team will earn a minimum hourly wage of £12.60. This is significantly higher than the government’s National Living Wage for workers aged 21 and over, which currently stands at £11.44 per hour.
Shawton Energy is headquartered in the North West, where 13.5% of jobs pay less than the real Living Wage—impacting around 397,000 workers. By joining over 15,000 responsible employers across the UK, we are taking a stand to ensure that our team members receive a wage that reflects the real cost of living.

What is the Real Living Wage?
Unlike the government’s National Living Wage, the real Living Wage is calculated based on the actual cost of living. It provides a voluntary benchmark for employers who want to go above and beyond the legal minimum to ensure their staff earn enough to make ends meet. Since 2011, the Living Wage movement has delivered pay rises to nearly half a million people, putting an extra £3.5 billion into the pockets of low-paid workers.
Jamie Shaw, CEO of Shawton Energy, explained the significance of this milestone: “As a business, we’re committed to doing the right thing by our people. By becoming a Living Wage Employer, we’re ensuring that everyone at Shawton Energy earns a wage that supports their quality of life and reflects their valuable contributions to our success. This is not just an investment in our team; it’s an investment in our shared future as a responsible business in our community.”
Katherine Chapman, Director of the Living Wage Foundation, added her congratulations: “We’re delighted that Shawton Energy has joined the movement of responsible employers who voluntarily commit to go further than the government minimum. Paying the real Living Wage is a mark of a business that values its employees and believes a hard day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay.”
Why it Matters
By paying the real Living Wage, Shawton Energy is not only improving the lives of our employees but also setting a standard for businesses in the energy sector. We firmly believe that sustainable business practices should extend to how we treat our people. As we continue to drive low-carbon energy solutions, we remain equally committed to driving positive change within our workplace and beyond.
