The Process

Thorough Solar Installation Process

Shawton Energy installed a rooftop solar PV system at Iceland’s Bridgend site under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The 149.5 kWp system, comprising 299 solar panels, was designed to integrate seamlessly with existing store operations. The installation took place over a three-week period and was completed with minimal disruption to day-to-day trading.

Effective Collaborative Effort

Working closely with Iceland’s operational and sustainability teams, Shawton Energy ensured the project met both performance and aesthetic requirements. The PPA funding model provided Iceland with immediate access to renewable electricity generation without upfront capital expenditure, while guaranteeing predictable energy costs over the lifetime of the agreement.

Could your business benefit from solar energy?

The Result

The rooftop solar system now generates approximately 112,051 kWh of clean electricity annually, saving around 32,017 kg of carbon each year. The new system directly contributes to lowering Iceland’s Scope 2 emissions, enhancing the retailer’s energy resilience and reinforcing its nationwide sustainability objectives. This successful project builds on previous installations across Iceland’s UK estate, supporting the company’s structured solar rollout as part of its wider renewable energy programme.
