The Process
Thorough Solar Installation Process
Shawton Energy delivered a turnkey rooftop solar PV system through a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), allowing Iceland to generate renewable electricity on-site without any upfront capital cost. The 172.5 kWp system, consisting of 345 solar panels, was installed over a three- week period with minimal disruption to daily store operations.
Effective Collaborative Effort
Shawton Energy collaborated closely with Iceland’s sustainability and operations teams to ensure the installation met all safety standards and aligned with the store’s trading requirements. The PPA model provided Iceland with a cost-effective, long-term energy solution that also supports energy price stability over the next 25 years. The project demonstrated how renewable energy infrastructure can be smoothly integrated into existing retail environments without affecting business performance.
Could your business benefit from solar energy?
The Result
The installation now generates around 151,279 kWh of clean electricity annually, resulting in a carbon saving of 32,064 kg each year. This renewable output contributes directly to a reduction in Iceland’s Scope 2 emissions while improving the resilience and sustainability of its energy supply. The success of the Crewe project underlines Iceland’s progress towards its Net Zero 2040 target and showcases the value of strategic partnerships in achieving corporate sustainability ambitions.
