Iceland Scunthorpe
Following successful installations at Crewe, Bridgend and York, Iceland partnered with Shawton Energy to install a rooftop solar PV system at its Scunthorpe store, supporting reduced emissions and improved sustainability across its retail estate.

The Process
25 year Power Purchase Agreement
Shawton Energy delivered a turnkey rooftop solar PV solution under a 25 year Power Purchase Agreement, allowing Iceland to benefit from renewable electricity generation without upfront investment.
Non-disruptive Installation
The Scunthorpe installation consists of 367 solar panels covering 816.1 m² of generation surface and providing an installed capacity of 187.71 kWp. The project was completed following a four week installation programme, with works managed to ensure minimal impact on daily operations.

Shawton Energy worked closely with Iceland’s internal teams to ensure compliance with all safety standards and seamless system integration.

The Result
The Scunthorpe solar installation generates approximately 177,886 kWh of renewable electricity annually, saving 37,706 kg of CO₂ each year.
The system reduces exposure to energy price volatility while lowering operational emissions. As part of Iceland’s ongoing solar rollout, the Scunthorpe project demonstrates how renewable energy can be successfully integrated into live retail environments while supporting the company’s Net Zero 2040 commitment.
